Transparency begins with citizens. Help bring accountability to the courtrooms where families' futures are decided.
Transparency Begins With Citizens
In America, courtrooms are public for a reason. The judiciary derives its authority from the people, and public oversight is an essential part of preserving trust, accountability, and due process within our legal system.
The Family First Coalition Court Watcher Program trains citizens to observe, document, and report on proceedings taking place in family courts, guardianship courts, probate courts, and other judicial venues where life-changing decisions impact children, families, and vulnerable seniors.
Court Watchers serve as the eyes and ears of the community. They attend hearings, take notes, observe courtroom procedures, document concerns, and help bring transparency to systems that too often operate beyond public view.
No legal background is required. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, retiree, college student, veteran, advocate, or concerned citizen, you can play an important role in promoting transparency and accountability.

What You'll Learn
Why Court Watching Matters
Many of the most important decisions affecting children, families, and seniors occur in courtrooms that receive little public attention. Court Watchers help shine a light on those proceedings by documenting what occurs and ensuring that citizens remain engaged in the institutions that serve the public.
Their observations help identify trends, highlight concerns, support public awareness efforts, and strengthen calls for transparency and reform.
Training Opportunities
The Family First Coalition offers ongoing Court Watcher training sessions throughout the year. Participants may attend live online training classes and educational workshops designed to prepare them for effective courtroom observation and reporting.
